City Museum is a unique and interesting museum in St. Louis, Missouri USA. Housed in an old shoe factory, it contains 600,000 square feet of open space featuring a playground for children, an area dedicated to trees from around the world with little pools for goldfish, buildings made from recycled materials such as automobile tires and bowling alley lanes, a giant ball pit, and a cave with an underground lake. It is owned by artist Bob Cassilly who began building the museum in 1976, but died before it opened in 1997. The museum is now open for visitors to explore its many exhibits which are changed regularly to keep them interesting for repeat visitors.
The City Museum in St. Louis is an eclectic indoor playground filled with "junk" that has been recycled into a series of winding paths through various rooms and buildings built from the ground up by sculptor Bob Cassilly.
The entrance to the museum is in an old shoe factory, still showing its original signage over the door. Inside, visitors are greeted by a roller coaster which runs around the museum at a height of three stories and loops through a bridge and a small room where it appears to turn upside down.
