Saint Louis Zoo is a zoological garden that is driven by the mission to inspire knowledge, passion and care for nature, and conserve wildlife throughout Missouri. The zoo contains 1,571 animal species from around the world including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Zoo exhibits feature penguins surrounding an indoor habitat in The Wild Life exhibit , polar bears in the Polar Bear Point exhibit, and an African lion on the Lion Camp Overlook den. There are 40 educational programs available to instructors at all levels of education that focus on animal care.


Experience and Amenities

In the Saint Louis Zoo there are a lot of experiences and amenities to offer visitors. The zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, and general admission is free. When you visit the Saint Louis Zoo, you’ll have no shortage of things to see and do. The Zoo has 90 acres of animal exhibits, attractions, shopping and dining for you and your family to enjoy. You can also find Zoo activities and programs for people of all ages and abilities. You can experience different zoo zones like the River's Edge, The Wild, Discovery Corner, Historic Hill, Red Rocks, and the Lakeside Crossing.


  1. River's Edge -  The Saint Louis Zoo's River's Edge is home to many of the Zoo's Asian animals. Located along the banks of the Mississippi River, this zone features several new exhibits that are part of Phase III of development at River's Edge. The new exhibits include two giant pandas, a family of gorillas, and an alligator gar fish.
  2. The Wild -   The Wild zone of the Saint Louis Zoo is home to some of the most fascinating and rare animals from around the world.
  3. Discovery Corner - Look for hands-on activities, sensory experiences, and more at Discovery Corner! In this new exhibit on the lower level near Stingrays at Caribbean Cove, you can learn about how your five senses work at a "Choose Your Senses" activity station, make a splash with water play, build a mighty tower of straws and blocks, watch as ants find food at our ant farm, explore the world of microscopes and magnifiers, and much more!
  4. Historic Hill -  The Saint Louis Zoo's Historic Hill is home to several species of animals and birds native to Missouri.
  5. Red Rocks -  The Saint Louis Zoo's Red Rocks exhibit is home to a variety of animals from Africa and Asia, including lions, tigers, bears, and apes.
  6. Lakeside Crossing -   The Saint Louis Zoo's Lakeside Crossing is home to several species of monkeys, such as the ring-tailed lemur and white-faced saki.
