Missouri Botanical Garden is a botanical garden located in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the oldest botanical garden west of the Mississippi River and was founded in 1859. The Garden is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. Admission is free to members and children ages 12 and younger, and $10 for seniors and non-members. It was established in June 1859 by William Rockhill Nelson (1841–1915) and Samuel Bumgardner.


Experiences and Amenities

There are a lot of fun and educational activities for families and all ages at Missouri Botanical Garden.

  1. Water Wise -  The Children's Garden offers a water play area called Water Wise, where kids can learn about the hydrologic cycle and watersheds through indoor exhibits and outdoor activities.
  2. Climatron - A geodesic dome greenhouse that houses more than 500 species of tropical plants from around the world, including some rare species. It is one of five Climatron greenhouses in the world.
  3. Music - There is live music every day of the week at various times and locations throughout the Garden.
  4. Book readings and storytelling - Every Saturday, there are story readings and storytelling from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Shoenberg Children's Garden gazebo.
  5. Art Areas - There are several art areas throughout the Garden, including a sculpture studio and art gallery.
  6. Lectures -  There are lectures every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall on various topics, including botany and gardening.


There are also a lot of amenities in the Garden. Here are a few:

  1. Garden Shop -  The Garden Shop has a variety of gifts, snacks, and amenities for visitors.
  2. Picnic - Visitors can bring picnic baskets or relax at one of the many picnic areas in the Garden to enjoy their lunch under the shade of trees.
  3. Gazebo - The Shoenberg Children's Garden has a gazebo which can be reserved for wedding ceremonies.
  4. Restrooms - There are restrooms with running water throughout the Garden.
  5. Café - The Garden Café offers sandwiches, salads, and snacks.
  6. Fountain - A fountain is in front of the Visitor's Center where visitors can fill up their water bottles.
