Koch Park

Jan 18, 2022

Koch Park is a public park in Florissant, Missouri. The family of Fred A. Koch donated the land that the park is built on to St. Louis County in 1955. On June 1, 1956, the county officially designated this area as a part of Grant's Trail, which also includes other locations such as Rockwood Reservation and Castlewood State Park. Today, Koch Park is managed by the St. Louis County Parks and Recreation department. Koch Park has a total area of 70 acres and is located at Charbonier and Howdershell Roads.

There are two major attractions in Koch Park which are the John F. Kennedy Community Center and a splash pad. The community center is one of the most used amenities in Koch Park, attracting people of all ages daily. This building offers many different programs for adults and children on various topics such as arts & crafts, parenting, health & wellness, digital literacy, financial awareness, and much more! Even though the community center is a heavily-used part of Koch Park, it's never too crowded to have a good time.

The splash pad is a perfect place for children with water activities and different fountains at their disposal. The park also has playground equipment for children, picnic shelters, grills, basketball courts, and shade trees.

There are also a lot of amenities in Koch Park, such as the archery range, pavilion, sand volleyball court, multipurpose court, tennis courts, handball courts and picnic area.

  • Archery range - If you are looking for a challenge, the archery range is the place for you. The target distance is 25 meters.
  • Pavilion - A shaded area with picnic tables, there are cooking grills and electrical outlets for use by pavilion visitors. Please note that barbecue cooking in all other areas of Koch Park (except at the pavilion) is strictly prohibited.
  • Sand volleyball court - This area is open to the general public when not reserved for leagues or special events. Rules governing play can be found on the bulletin board by the sand volleyball court.
  • Multipurpose court - During the winter months this area serves as an ice skating rink, which is free of charge and open to everyone who would like to ice skate. In the summer months this area is home to many free programs such as quidditch, aeroball, and korfball.
  • Tennis courts - There are six tennis courts which are available for browsing at all times unless a league has reserved them. The general rules of play can be found on a sign next to the courts.
  • Handball court - Located in front of the tennis courts, this area is host to handball which anyone can play during park hours when not reserved for leagues or special events. The general rules of play can be found on a sign next to the courts.

If you want to relax or have a family outing, Koch park has something for everyone. It provides a place to play tennis and handball as well as strollers and walking paths. The trees near the playground make it perfect for picnics and outdoor gatherings. Whether you want to practice your aim on the archery range or just sit and read a book by one of the pavilions, Koch Park has plenty to offer. It is an ideal location for a day trip with your friends or family.
